Mare and foal care
Mare Meadows specializes in managing the cycle of
breeding, pregnancy confirmation, pre-and post-natal care and nutrition, and
all the related issues of raising healthy, sound racing and performance
prospects. Young stock are segregated by age and sex, and kept in large
paddocks where they can socialize with their peers and develop strong heart,
wind, muscle, and bone. All babies are regularly handled and regularly
reviewed by our veterinarian and farrier.
Foaling is carefully supervised. Mare Meadows has
15, large 12' x 20' foaling stalls, with TV cameras and monitoring
stations in both the farm manager's and foaling manager's bedrooms in their
homes on the farm. Expectant mothers also wear electronic foaling alert
collars.
